EMBRACE:
Think about an Embrace from God. God's desire is to have a deep, intimate relationship with you!
Remember the words Moses used to bless Israel as they prepared to enter the Promised Land,"There is none like the God of Jeshurun, who rides the heavens to your aid, the clouds in His majesty. The God of old is [your] dwelling place, and underneath are the everlasting arms." Deuteronomy 33:26-27a
Reflect on the words of Isaiah, "He protects His flock like a shepherd. He gathers the lambs in His arms and carries [them] in the fold of His [garment]". Isaiah 40:11
One of the most comforting feelings is an embrace. We embrace in times of joy and in times of sorrow. We embrace to show the one we are embracing how much we care.
Jesus even tried to help us understand God's desire to have this kind of relationship with us by teaching the parable of "The Lost Son", Luke 15:11-32. "But while the son was still a long way off, his father saw him and was filled with compassion, he ran, threw his arms around his neck and kissed him", Luke 11:20.
What a powerful and emotional revelation of God's desired relationship with us! Not only does God desire that He have this kind of personal relationship with us, He also desires that we would treat each other in the same manner. Jesus, in the New Testament, calls believers to uphold the Old Testament teaching to "love your neighbor as yourself", Matthew 22:39, Mark 12:31, Luke 10:25-37, and Leviticus 19:18.
